greemile.co.uk buys carbon credit contracts on the European Emissions Trading Scheme. We then allocate parts of the carbon contract to people who want access to smaller amounts.
Carbon credits are usually sold in multiples of 5,000 tonnes on the market. The amounts we sell are multiples of 5 tonnes, 10 tonnes, 25 tonnes or 50 tonnes. Once the carbon credit has been allocated it may not be allocated to anyone else and greenmile.co.uk can not sell that part of the contract on the market (this is all set out in our Terms and Conditions).
You can see copies of the contracts we have bought. To the extent that we don't allocate contracts we may resell them on the EU ETS, but if we do we will publish copies of our sales contracts. Our Terms and Conditions are here.
With greenmile.co.uk what you see is what you get, someone sells us their right to emit carbon, and greenmile.co.uk gives you access to it. We don't do anything else.
When 10 tonnes of carbon credit are allocated to you then you know that you have stopped someone else emitting 10 tonnes of carbon. You pay your way by choosing to cover your own emissions with an allocated tonnage of carbon credit - and being carbon neutral.
